RNMC Geotechnical Engineer at KGHM

The Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for understanding the rock mechanics and geology at the mine, managing the slope monitoring systems, managing and developing the geotechnical drill programs, and developing remediation and mitigation places for slope failures. Work closely with and support the mine planners and mine operations, the hydrology group the geology group, the environmental department, and work under minimal direction of the Chief Mine Engineer.


Previous Related Work Experience Required
• Minimum of 5-7 years progressively responsible Geotechnical Engineering experience – open pit mining operation preferred, but not required.
• Mine Operations / Supervision or Project Management experience would be beneficial.
Education Required
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering or related fields (geology, mine engineering, civil engineering) with a strong emphasis in rock mechanics.
• Master’s degree preferable. Special Skills and/or Knowledge Required
• Excellent analytical, management, organization, communication and problem solving skills.
• Willingness to perform multiple and variable responsibilities is required.
• The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work safely and in a team environment and communicate will with others.
• Working knowledge of MineSight preferable.
• Working knowledge of Roc Science Suite preferable.
• Working knowledge of GeoMoS, DataForge, and Reutech mining software preferable.
• Professional Registration a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.


• Responsible for the overall geotechnical program, GCMP (ground control management plan), and for developing cost effective task plans  to complete work on the time wna within budget.
• Strong assistance in the development of annual project budgets.
• Responsible for the preparation of the “RFx” (Request for B ids, Proposals, Quotations, Information) and AFE (Authorization for Expenditure documents, evaluation of responses, selection of contractor, and contract agreement implementation.
• Provide daily work and budgetary oversight of consultants and contractors, including approving invoices.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with KGHM corporate geotechnical management, RNMC management, differing department personal, and contractors, and be capable project and task manager.
• Advise mine operation personnel with slope mitigation plans. • Responsible for the effective management of own time and effort in accordance with project priorities and objectives. • Ability to be on call during off hours during your work rotations.
• Convey results and findings by means of oral discussions, presentations, and formal reports.
• Update weekly and monthly reports regarding geotechnical projects.
• Plan, formulate and conduct geotechnical field investigations in accordance with project objectives and requirements that include drilling oversight, prism placement installation and interpretation, slope monitoring radar movement, setup, and interpretation, high wall mapping, visual inspection of high walls, blasting review and recommendations, data analysis and interpretation, monitor progress of slop mitigations, and investigate reports of high wall instabilities.
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with technical writing experience.
